Local people say they are happy with GAD intervention with elders in the area, weites GAD-founder, Jeplocck who recently returnes from hygiene lessons for elders in The Koma i villlage.
– what is the point of tooth brush for us who have no teeth?
– tooth paste destroys microbes on our tongue. Therefore it is important to brush it.
– ok, we do understand.
This is an example of a conversation I had with the elders who participated in GAD’s hygiene lessons this February. It was a very uplifting day, so I’ll give you a glimpse from it here.
We are lucky to have local partners, such as the Mudzi-Pela Catholic mission in Kolomani. Last year they lend us their opick up for us to distribute goods to the local population. This is essential, especially to eldees who are too weak to walk long distances. At the same time we cannot depend on others, which is why we have formed four different groups in Bunia, where they can take part in health lessons and recieve food and medicine rations.
We also taught the participants how to use powder soap for washing cloths. Pierrot is leading the exercise and Jeplock is answering questions.
After washing, we showed the importance of drying clothes on a corde under the sun and not on herbs, in order to avoid infections.
Children who live with elders rarely have the opportunity to go to school. We in ited them to show how they can practise education whenever they get the opportunity between housework and farming.
We taught them how to mix milk powder with water and the importance of leave the sugar out of it, in order to avoid damage to their teeth.
Thanks for your prayers and support, from all of us to all of you!!
